The 'Early Presentation of Cancer Symptoms Programme' aims to help people to recognise early symptoms of cancer and seek help.  Early detection saves lives. Survival rates from most cancers are getting better and better.

The programme works with community volunteers to raise awareness of the symptoms of bowel, prostate, cervical and ovarian cancer, as well as the bowel and cervical screening programmes.

For more information please contact Julie Grimmer on 01472 232261 or Julie.grimmer@nhs.net

The Older People’s Health & Wellbeing Programme works in partnership with other agencies to assist older people in improving their health & wellbeing.  Community teams use a combination of a community-led social marketing and a collaborative approach to address issues such as 19 weekly social clubs take place in North East Lincolnshire at a variety of locations.

A social club is held here at Centre4 every Tuesday 1:00pm.  All are welcome.  For more information please contact Martin Wakefield on 01472 232267 or martin.wakefield@nhs.net

The Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) collaborative has been established to help raise awareness of CHD within North East Lincolnshire.  The team is supported by volunteers in the community and aims to encourage people into taking action to prevent the disease and minimise its impact.

The team also promote screening activities at events, such as blood pressure checks and subsequent GP referrals, so that residents can access appropriate and responsive health services.

The latest initiative being offered is pre-diabetes risk assessments, where people in the community are opportunistically offered risk assessments.

The Speak Out For Skin social marketing campaign is part of the Skin Health Collaborative Programme in North East Lincolnshire. It focuses on raising awareness of tissue viability and encouraging people to present early symptoms to their nurse or GP, such as sores and dry patches that won’t heal. The team also promote existing services for skin issues and ‘nudge’ people to access them, using a social marketing structure and community team campaigns.

As part of the cancer collaborative team, the Lung Collaborative aims to promote early presentation and diagnosis of lung cancer. Our main message is that if you have a persistent cough for 3 weeks or longer, see your GP to get it checked out.

We also aim to raise awareness of the early symptoms of laryngeal (throat) cancer, such as a sore throat, a change/hoarseness in your voice, difficulty swallowing, or the feeling of something being stuck in the throat. Any of these symptoms lasting more than a few weeks should be checked by a GP.
